The article is a recommendation for the Historical Anthropological Protocol for recovery, curation, care and preliminary anthropological investigations of the anthropological materials through archaeological excavation. The necessity of the regulation and standardisation has occurred a long time ago in the field of the Hungarian biological anthropology. In 2008 the Committee of Anthropology (CA), Section of Biological Sciences, Hungarian Academy of Sciences (SBS, HAS) appointed a working group to give recommendations for a Historical Anthropological Protocol. The recommendations concerning Historical Anthropological Protocol were drawn up by this working group, named "Ad hoc Historical Anthropological Protocol Committee” of the CA, SBS, HAS), with the contributions of physical anthropologists and curators from the Department of Anthropology, Hungarian Natural History Museum, Department of Biological Anthropology, Faculty of Science, Eötvös University (Budapest) and from the Department of Anthropology, Szeged University (Szeged). The Protocol consists of I) the guidance for the exploration, the care and registrations of human remains in museums and other institutes caring anthropological collection, 2) recommendations for general anthropological examinations of human remains. The Protocol was read and approved by the Committee of Anthropology, SBS, HAS, in 2009.
