Somogyi Ferenc professzor a Szent Margit Magyar Iskola vasárnap délutáni törté­­nelemelőadás-sorozatában Kováts Mihályról szóló meg­emlékezését az Első Magyar Presbiteriánus Egyház nagy­termében dt. Endrei Ferenc lelkész meghívására „Ki volt’ Kováts Mihály, és mit tett Amerikáért?” címmel. A történettudós alaposságával és a jó magyar ember lelkesedésével az előadó végigvezette a feszülten figyelő közönséget Kováts Mihály változatos életének minden fontos eseményén. Vázolta a katonának született hős magyar lélekből fakadó szabadságszeretetét is, amivel nemcsak a magyar, de minden nép szabadságáért kész volt harcolni. Így került a karcagi születésű jász-kun magyar huszár végül is Amerikába, ahol az amerikai sza­badságért küzdve életét vesztette el, ezzel hozzájárult ahhoz, hogy az idővel hazájukat vesztett magyarok itt újra szabad hazában élhessenek. Az előadás végeztével a hallgatóság igen lelkes han­gulatban még egy ideig együtt maradt, még megbeszél­ték a hallottakat, és mint Somogyi professzor előadásai­ról mindig, úgy most is sok új ismerettel gazdagabban távoztak.
