4. Nemzetközi Miniatűrtextil Biennálé (Szombathely, 1982)
Negyedik alkalommal kerül megrendezésre a szombathelyi nemzetközi minitextil biennálé. A minitextil - lévén könnyen csomagolható, postázható és kiállítható tárgy - a nemzetközi művészeti kommunikáció (s mind gyakrabban: a művészetről szóló kommunikáció) közegévé lépett elő. Ezt a benyomást fogalmazta meg a mostani kiállítás anyagának áttekintésekor Szenes Zsuzsa : Megszületett a textil mailart. A küldemények egyelőre nem egymás elmére, hanem a múzeumokba és galériákba érkeznek s ily módon valamennyien címezettjei lehetünk ezeknek a korunkról, a művészet és a művészek válságáról és kísérleteiről, munkájáról és játékáról szóló üzeneteknek. The International Biennial of Miniature Textiles at Szombathely will be opened for the fourth time in 1982. The first biennial revealed the emergence of a new genre, the second and third demonstrated the differentiation of the ideas realized in miniature textiles and their geographical, national, stylistic and, last but not least, conceptual diversity. What is to be expected from the present exhibition? In the "heroic" period, in the early seventies, it was the new problems or new approaches to age-old questions which led to the development of miniature textile as a more and more selfsufficient genre. Ten years later, one can hardly tell whether it is the still open questions, the still valid and significant approaches, or the national and international events organized around this genre that sustain the demand for and the production of miniature textiles. On the exhibitions small-sized tapestries, embroidery, sewn or woven pictures are represented as well as the examination results and tests of materials and techniques beside sculptures constructed in textile materials. One would think that size in itself could not really explain the marked attention that is being paid to miniature textiles. As a matter of fact, this is the point. Miniature textiles, by virtue of their being art objects easily packed, mailed, and exhibited, have been promoted to a medium of international art communication (and ever more often: of communication on art). This was also the impression of the artist, Zsuzsa Szenes who, after having seen the works sent to Szombathely, exclaimed: This is mail-art in textile ! The parcels have been addressed so far to museums and galleries. Hence all of us can be the intended receivers of these messages, speaking to us about our age, the crises and experiments in its art, and the work and play of its artists. Wessely Anna Anna Wessely
