Apryl 13-May 11, 1994MOSCOW LEVENTE THURY Levente Thury and his curious golems We met in New York in 1987. Levente appeared in my New York apartment as we had been friends before. Since than I got a good friend.Though he had faults. Sculpture was one of them. What a stupid thing to deal with art. Especially if somebody a golemmaker. The golem of Prague rabbi was a different story. It had usefulness at least. Ifit was started, it made everything what a robot could only dream of today. Levente's golems do nothing at all. It can not been noticed at least. But they might do something. They must do something. As I am thinking of them I am convinced. It's worth paying attention to them. Because they are busy with doing something. Perceptibly they do nothing- they wouldn't be able to either because they are tied by Levente. I think he has a good reason to do that. Anyway he makes very nice postmodern frames for them. Returning where I left off, they do something after all. Though they can not move- being ceramic sculptures-but they can make us move. They still don't make us move, they make us stop instead. You have to stop and look at them. Here is the trap.If I start to look at them, something would happen. Something happens to them and to me too. First of all some of them are very ugly and yet, after a short time I begin to like them. How could these possibly happen I like something which was terrible before. I think they break into my brain and reprogram it like UFO-s. In one word, a modern golem-if it can not move-still it figures out how could psychokinetic energies be handled and used. First it makes me turn out of the situation where things are stabile and unchanged, everything is countable and I have a good feeling if I can give nice answers and I know I am understood by my neighborhood because they would give the same answers. When I realized wich I thought was terrible then golem has already done the first step. And the next steps are much easier . And these curious golems are made by Levente Thury. Thanks to him!
