JAGER MARGIT ------------------------------ keramikus iparművész------------------------------ Lakáscím: 1131 Budapest, Fivér utca ó/b • Telefon: 120-9139, 214-5282 Foreword Margit Jáger is a happy person. She does what her conviction and her profession have consigned her to do. Her searching look, her meditative uncertainties, the movements of her hands looking for a fixed point - especially the latter ones - claim her to find certainty in the material, to believe in a world that does please to her, to dare be herself. Doubting is her empire. She works with dense material and she condenses it to be more constant. In her thoughts she does the contrary: she rarefies, that is she makes her intentions more applicable to human digestion and interpretation. It has been a long way from the beginner Margit Jáger to the present Margit Jáger. She has arrived at dignity from functionality and this means the nemesis of creation, e.g. she is able to make creations in which she believes and has doubts about at the same time. She has to be divested of this nemesis - from the punishment of fate. She has to be persuaded to believe in her own thoughts, to believe in her being able to realise the flight of her aims. The reality of her dreams gets the more personal in every time. Her fix ideas become multiplied through the elaboration. All this, what her plans create, is to be considered a fought presence. The ceramics of Margit Jáger seem from the height of the human eye to be miniatures. She creates them with passionate devotion and with the same devotion she frames our moments. Her figures are marking a situation, they are pouring out of the foundry to let her grips afterwards into them with unsparing sincerity, to listen to them and to ask them to excuse. She came from the antique tea-set to the increased, ecstatic manifestation of the figures, what seems to be conceited sometimes. But this is not true: Everybody seems to be someone else in this cavalcade. Margit Jáger forms cases, plans atavism - 0, happy twentieth century! - let us feel the support, e.g. she discerns important things from unimportant ones and her attitude means something which does not leave anything to be desired, it rather excuses, induces the attention and to follow her. The figures of Margit Jáger remember - inseparably - a workshop, a community, a happy family, where everybody belongs to us, has not only taken this garment (fancy dress), but has also ripened its vocation. These contradictory figures make us laugh (together with their owners). They even consult about the last but one minute. Because after them there are no question marks, they are not followed by an exclamation, they exist on their own, cannot be reproduced. They are very sincere, they omit the wishes of the market for those who work in the trade. I call them Dionysian figures. With them comes into being such a chain of happiness, which is created to live, which cannot be denied. There is a great need for them in our everyday life. Long live the human-shaped, hopeful even in their hide figures of Margit Jáger. Zsolt Molnár
