DOKUMENTUMOK - Szécsényi András - Kerepeszki Róbert: „Ellenzék" a Turulban. A Turul Szövetségről I/171
„OPPOSITION" IN THE TURUL On the Turul Association by András Szécsény Róbert Kerepeszki (Abstract) The manuscript document entitled „Opposition in the Turul" (Hung. »Ellenzék« a Turulban"), now preserved in the Hungarian National Archives, is one of the most important continuous sources of the history of university comradeships in the interwar period. It sheds important light on the role of the Turul Association, on the changes of power and ideology which took place within the association itself, and in general on the relations which characterised the circles of young intellectuals in the second half of the 1930s and the first half of the 1940s. Historiography has hitherto regarded as the author of the document Vilmos Fitos (1913-2000), the prominent oppositional member of the Turul Association, who, cherishing ideas which were similar to those of the „popular-nationalist" writers, turned against the former racist and anti-semitic leadership of the Association, and later emerged as its leader. Yet the introductory study aims at demonstrating, along several lines of argument, that the author could not be Fitos, but rather an unknown, secretely Communist Turul member, who knew personally the leading member of the comradeship and thus had access to first-hand information. What is certain is that after the war, in the first half of 1946, he wrote his memoirs from a left-wing standpoint, with the aim of denouncing his former opponents. The introductory study and the copious notes help to find one's way in the intricate and mostly still uncovered details of the matter, whereas the published source is an important contribution to the knowledge of the history and role of the Turul Association itself. 117 Az Ideiglenes Nemzeti Kormány 1945 februárjában kiadott 529/1945. számú rendelete oszlatta fel a Turul Szövetséget több, a Horthy-korszakra jellemző jobb- és szélsőjobboldali társadalmi egyesülettel (Ébredő Magyarok Egyesülete, MOVE, Levente-intézmény, Volksbund, Magyar Orvosok Nemzeti Egyesülete, stb.) és politikai szervezettel (Nyilaskeresztes Párt, Magyar Élet Pártja) együtt. 529/1945.
