illenteid Volume 9. Nr. 39. 2004/1. Provocative Performances - Team Works? In the present issue we gathered provocative performances, which concern with deviance, perversion and other various forms of extremism. After all, the articles and interviews have raised a further important question, namely, if there is in some way possible teamwork in Hungarian contemporary art. Our first section deals with the Kompmánia, one of the most outstanding Hungarian contemporary dance company, and its descendant companies. “The history of the Kompmánia is a gradual uncovering, opening, releasing themselves. On the top of their performances they have guided several spectators on a path of associations, which led to their own hidden, darken ego. Their performances have besieged more and more daringly the mysterious walls, which surround the artistic ego in every respect. Kompmánia’s script is one of self-examination and development. This was the way from individual stories to adaptations seeking resemblance, parallelism and correlation. From getting hold of someone’s personal state in a work of art to representing the capacity of choosing and elaborating issues.” - writes Tamás Halász is his comprehensive study. Nowadays the founder artists of the company, Attila Csabai and Márta Ladjánszki keeps on working separately, and so does Krisztián Cergye who had joined them later, but soon became an important member of the company. We asked them about the years spent together and the reasons of separation. We also compiled some articles on their latest performances. In our second section we publish a debate on the first night in Hungary of Three Birds by Joanna Laurens with the participation of the creators (Péter Forgács - stage director, Zsuzsa Faragó - dramaturge, Anni Füzér - stage and costume designer) and the translator-dramaturge Zsófia Ruttkay, the critic Balázs Perényi and Mária Szilágyi who represents the agency of the play in Hungary. The performance has translated the meta-language and grotesque imagery of the text in a theatrical choreography. The expressive and sensual body language and the stylisation of the representation reveals the fate of those who are guided by desire. A part of the discussion concerns with the question if there is possible to lead a team-building workshop for a stage director who does not belong to any company. Is it still possible team working in a repertory theatre at all? Provocative Performances - Team Works ?
