Hungarologische Beitrage 7. Universität Jyväskylä (1996)

Editor's Foreword This volume of the Hungarologische Beiträge contains the diverse papers of a seminar Hungary at the beginning of the 1940s and Finland from the Hungarian point of view, held at the University of Jyväskylä from the 28th to the 29th of October, 1994. Under the auspices of General History (Department of History) and Hungarology (Department of Literature), the aims of the seminar were quite unique in themselves: to bring together scholars, mostly historians, from different fields and from various countries to throw light on the Finnish-Hungarian relations, and to analyse, from a comparative point of view, the precarious power-political situation of Finland and Hungary during the so called 'difficult times'. Unavoidably but fortunately, the discussion was focused on issues relating to possible parallel historical experiences and problems of the Hungarians and Finns. However, both some more general and specialized themes came to the fore, too. This shows how studies in Hungarian history and hungarology in general are expanding and how the network of hungarologists is enjoying the company of ever increasing number of participants. Finally, the hungarology project wishes to express it gratitude to the Finnish Academy which has financed the seminar as well as the proceedings of the network.
