Chairman’s Address to the Participants Dear Colleagues, Welcome to the 10,h Cereal Rusts and Mildews Conference, organized by our dear friends from Hungary. We thank the Organizing Committee, headed by Dr. Balázs Barna and his colleagues Prof. Zoltán Bedő, Dr. Gábor Gullner, Prof. Zoltán Király, Dr. Klára Manninger and Prof. Ákos Mesterházy, for the wonderful job they did for us, in organizing this conference. The members of the board of our Foundation, expressed their wish to hand over their task after serving several years in this board. The new board was recruited last year, and includes the following persons: Dr. Balázs Barna, Hungary - chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Conference, Dr. Rients E. Niks, the Netherlands - treasurer, Dr. Adrian Newton, Scotland - editor of the bulletin, Dr. Catherine Feuillet, Switzerland - secretary, Prof. Amos Dinoor, Israel - chairman. I have the feeling that our organization is a kind of loose group, meeting every 4 years at a conference. There is no official membership, although very good professional contacts do exist between individuals, however many of us do not know many fellow scientists in our community. Meeting on such occasion as the conference, opens up opportunities to discuss the future role of the Foundation. Therefore I encourage each of you to come up with suggestions at the beginning of the conference, so that we may discuss these issues in the General Assembly. To the best of my knowledge, there was one suggestion to organize the next conference in 2004. We are looking forward for additional suggestions, and if there are any, the General Assembly will decide where it will be held.
