Kádas István művészete (1994)

Kiállításai Exhibitions The Jerusalem Post Friday August 25 ‘89 The art scene Meir Ronen DOWNSTAIRT AT the same venue, lively line and wash drawings by István Kadas (b. Hungary, 1941, here since 1988) are also of a symbolic, even apocalyptic nature, but nearer the fairy-tale illustrations of Arthur Rackham in spirit. Redolent of medieval illustration, they might also be termed Yossi Stern with teeth, or rather hooks. For some reason the key element in Budapest-trained Kadas’s drawings of kings and angels is the hook, or singleedged barb, which imparts an element of hardness or danger as well as serving as a unifying decorative mannerism. Its source is also medieval. Also on view is a single realist etching of a view of Budapest, rendered in the academic manner, complete with tones of stipple. Kadas has a fine sense of rhythm and design but he will have to work hard to free himself of his own mannerisms. 1976. Esztergom Petőfi M.K. 1978. Nyíregyháza Jósa András Megyei Múzeum 1981.
