Modern Turku is a vibrant high - technology, scientific and cultural town, home to three universities and Turku Polytechnic. the polytechnic in general The Polytechnic degree is a new degree in Finland that offers an alternative to the vocational and university degrees. The aim of the Polytechnic is to train people who are competent in the practicalities of their own field and who have, in addition to a command of theory and practice, working life experience. This is due to the fact that practical training forms an integral part of polytechnic studies. The Bachelor of Cultural Studies degree (160-180 credits) takes from 4 to 4,5 years to complete. The City of Turku finances Turku Polytechnic and tuition is free of charge. The Polytechnic in Turku became a permanent one in September 1997. Turku Polytechnic and the Polytechnic of Southwest Finland will merge in the year 2000.
