EVOLUTIONARY TRENDS IN FOSSIL AND RECENT HOMINIDS Symposia Biologica Hungarica 9 EDITED flï J. NEMESKÉB.I AND GY. DEZSŐ The Symposium organized by the Biologica] Department of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences dealt with the trends of evolution of hominids. The present volume containing papers by research workers from five countries covers the fields of palaeontology, anthropology, human genetics and archaeology. The problems of praehominization are dealt with dating back as far as the fossil levels of Primates, involving the discussion of hominization and anthropogenesis. Of special interest is the fact that several lectures delivered at the Symposium discuss the most recent results in connection with the H ото palaeohungaricus of Vértesszöllős, an important find known all over the world. Other papers deal with the anthropological problems of the present age, thus enabling the reader to follow the trends of evolution throughout.
