A cikk írója tréfásan (vagy gúnyosan) megjegyzi, hogy a babonás emberek hisznek abban, hogy egy-egy üstökös megjelenése mindig felfordulással, háborúkkal, katasztrófákkal van egybekötve. (Nincs elég felfordulás máris a Földünkön — üstökös nélkül is?) Útitársam velem együtt olvasta az érdekes cikket a Kohoutek-üstökösről és a végén az olaszok szokott izgatottságával tette fel e kérdéseket: “Világháború, világkatasztrófa lesz?” És várta is tőlem a választ, óh, ha én azt tudnám! Én is kérdéssel kezdtem a válaszomat: “Gondolja, hogy mi papok jósok is vagyunk?” “No, nem gondolom, — felelte — de mégis jól ismerik a Bibliát és abban sok jóslat van ilyesfélékről is. A vallásnak is kell valami válaszának lennie, hogy mi hívek mihez igazodjunk...” Megvallom őszintén, nehéz az ilyen kérdésekre választ adni. Mert ehhez jövőbelátó jósnak és jó politikusnak is kellene lenni. Mert az ember könnyen elkalandozhat olyan jóslatokba is, melyek nincsenek a Bibliában. Vagy ha benne is vannak, de nem értjük őket jól. És politikát is vihetünk a válaszunkba. Hogy pl. az a magazin azért írta, hogy az üstökös jöttekor háborúk és világkatasztrófák szoktak lenni, mert az író valóban szeretné, ha nagy csetepaté lenne pl. az olaj érdekében. Hangulatot csinálni a nép között, hogy jön az üstökös, hát legyen nagy háború. Jó lenne beugratni egyik vagy a mások oldalt a háborúba. Persze, ki tudja, melyik oldalt? Mert ma azt sem tudhatjuk, hogy itt melyik oldal írogatja a magazinokat. Egy szóval, a feltett kérdésekre nehéz volt világos választ adnom útitársamnak. Mert ő nem privát jóslatot és nem politikai célzásokat várt tőlem, hanem olyan véleményt, amilyent egy papnak illik adnia. Igyekeztem neki józan választ, vagy legalább is útmutatást adni. Hosszan és részletesen kellett elmondanom neki, hogy értelme is legyen. A válaszom lényegét pedig igyekszem most rövid írásban is megadni annak a sok levelezőmnek is, akik hasonló kérdéseket adtak fel levelükben. Valóban eljön Krisztus másodszor? — Igen. Ez benne van a Bibliában, ezt hisszük és az új miseszövegben mondjuk is. Lesz a világvég — most? — Végítélet, elszámolás lesz, de a napot és órát senki sem tudja, csak az Atya Isten. Az új, nagy üstökös megjelenése jelentheti a harmadik világháború kezdetét? — igenis, meg nem is. Mert erre semmi adat nincs. Igaz, az előbbi üstökösök sokszor egybeestek nagy háborúkkal. De aki ebből biztosat jósol, az privát jós, vagy pedig politikusa ennek vagy annak az oldalnak. Igaz ugyan, hogy az égitestek hatással vannak az emberi szervezetre, mint pl. egyeseknél a holdtölte az alvásra és égi katasztrófák az emberiséget is megzavarhatják a gondolkodásmódjukban, de mindebből nem lehet semmit sem jósolni. Útitársamnak még feladtam egy kérdést: “Biztos abban, hogy az élete egyszer véget ér?” — “Igen”, — felelte. “És már gyermekkora óta állandóan retteg, hogy mi lesz?” — “No, nem.” — Így kell az üstökösöket is várnunk, és az eljövendő nagy báborkat, katasztrófákat is. Ha jönnek, hát jönnek, ha egyáltalán jönnek. Hogy mit hoznak, az a Teremtőtől függ végeredményben. Az embernek, nekünk vallásos embereknek, kell hogy annyi hitünk legyen, hogy a jövőt és a végső időket a Gondviselő bölcsen és igazságosan fogja befejezni. — Jön az új üstökös? — hát, majd megnézzük.
