SUMMARY Just ten years ago, in 1946, the Democratic Constitution of the Republic was enacted by the freely elected Hungarian Parliament. This Constitution declared and assured the basic rights of all citizens. Ferenc Nagy, former Prime Minister (1946 to 1947) commemorates this tenth anniversary, describing how the Constitution has been violated by the Communists. In today’s international political situation it is necessary for the emigration to study its situation and to define its duties logically and without illusions. This question is discussed in a study by Imre Kovács, author of „The Ninety and Nine". This study concerns itself with the means of peaceful liberation, with the respective concepts by the West and, above all, by the United States of America. It contains a number of significant statements concerning the specific Hungarian aspects of psychological warfare. In his diary notes, Zoltán Szabó, the well-known Hungarian author living in London, commemorates the part played by Gyula Szekfii, the late great Hungarian historiographer. The Franco-Hungarian Society recently unveiled an Ady-memorial. Zoltán Szabó now also quotes his speech held during the occasion. Joseph Molnár, political publicist, publishes a study on the social conditions in Hungary between the two World Wars. This study constructively deduces the consequences for the future — from errors committed in the past. On occasion of the centenary of the death of Adam Mickiewicz, the great Polish poet, the „Látóhatár" publishes Béla Horváth's translation of his „Ode to Youth". In a documentary article, Gyula Borbándi gives a detailed account of the type of foreign literature published in Hungary since the war. We further publish the poetical reflections of Giovanni Papini, Italian author, the poems and literary translations of Joseph Reményi (Western Reserve University), the short poems of Bélá Horváth, as well as the poems by such young authors as Gábor Bikich, Györgyi Bán and Sándor Varga. We also give a report on film production in Hungary. Our book review evaluates and reviews the most recent editions published at home and abroad.
